CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA- Apple has officially introduced the next generation of its premium over-ear headphones, AirPods Max 2, bringing enhanced sound performance, improved noise cancellation, and a range of intelligent capabilities. Powered by the new Apple H2 Chip, the updated headphones introduce features such as Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation to the AirPods Max lineup for the first time.
The new model also expands creative possibilities for podcasters, musicians, and content creators with additions like studio-quality audio recording and a camera remote feature. AirPods Max 2 will be available for preorder starting March 25 and will come in five colors midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue with retail availability expected early next month.
According to Apple, the upgraded headphones deliver a significant improvement in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The company says the H2 chip enables noise cancellation that is up to 1.5 times more effective than the previous generation, helping reduce sounds such as airplane engines or busy commuter trains. This allows users to focus more fully on music, calls, or work.
Transparency Mode has also been refined through updated digital signal processing designed specifically for the H2 chip and the AirPods Max microphone system. As a result, external sounds are said to feel more natural, allowing users to stay aware of their surroundings while wearing the headphones.
Apple has also improved overall audio performance. AirPods Max 2 feature a high dynamic range amplifier designed to deliver cleaner, richer sound while maintaining the signature audio profile of the original model. Spatial Audio content is expected to sound more precise, with improved instrument placement, stronger bass consistency, and more natural midrange and treble tones.
For users seeking higher-quality audio playback, the headphones support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected through the included USB-C cable. Apple says this capability enables music creators to integrate AirPods Max into professional workflows using applications like Logic Pro. The headphones also allow musicians to create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking when connected via cable.
Wireless latency has also been reduced, which Apple says will improve responsiveness for gamers using Game Mode across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.
In addition to audio upgrades, the new headphones include several intelligent features powered by the H2 chip. Adaptive Audio automatically adjusts between noise cancellation and transparency depending on the user’s environment, while Conversation Awareness lowers media volume when the user begins speaking with someone nearby.
Additional tools such as Personalized Volume, Loud Sound Reduction, and hands-free Siri interactions aim to make everyday listening more convenient while protecting users from excessive noise exposure.
